Students

• Have you started to play guitar only to put it away in your closet and would like to start playing again?

• Have you taken guitar lessons and found you were not able to connect with lesson structure and content?

• Are you interested in learning to play guitar along with some music theory presented in a balanced approach?

Coastside Guitar can help you.

Lessons are structured around student interest and ability level. The goal, especially early on, is to help students learn some basic skills to begin playing music as soon as possible. Music theory, while not the focus of lessons, is embedded all along the way so students are not only learning to play guitar, they are also  learning about music.

Lessons are held at my home/studio in Montara or elsewhere by arrangement.

Basic lesson rate is:  $60 for a one-hour lesson which includes time spent preparing for lessons such as notebook content, sending homework videos etc...

Typical Lesson

A typical lesson would begin with a basic assessment of student skills along with a conversation around how the student would like to play and the type of music they like. Based on the assessment, the lesson might proceed as follows:

1. New concept demonstrated to student, possibly with diagrams on paper.

2. Concept is practiced by teacher and student together.

3. Concept is practiced by student independently.

4. Concept is practiced as part of a song student would like to learn, or a song created by student using the new concept.

5. New concept is presented building on previous concept.

6. Teacher demonstrates important concepts of the lesson on video as student homework to be completed prior to next meeting.

Students will walk away from each lesson with concepts/diagrams to be compiled in a notebook along with videos demonstrating important concepts of the lesson.
